Everyone is busy. Whether it is working 40+ hours a week, running errands to keep the household functioning, taking care of the kids and pets, family functions, we all are constantly on the go. Now, think about the first thing you cancel when you have to finish your to-do list or be at all these events… 99% of the time it is something to do with making time for YOU and your own health.
It is impossible to be the person everyone expects you to be when you aren’t taking care of yourself!! I mean maybe it’s just the way I am wired, but I can’t be doing all the things and still be expected to function at my very best! I need time to re-energize and spend some time on my own damn self. It’s not selfish to say no to something because you need time to love yourself and take care yourself. LET’S SAY THAT AGAIN —- IT IS NOT SELFISH TO SAY NO TO SOMETHING BECAUSE YOU NEED TIME TO LOVE YOURSELF AND TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!!! And if you are the person that can go go go and feel 100% your best, then more power to you, but I think you’re lyin’.
Self-care is essential for EVERYONE in maintaining a heathy state physically, mentally, and emotionally. Everyone has responsibilities, but it is also your responsibility to take care of yourself! It is not selfish; you have to have a healthy work-life balance to manage the stress we all experience on a day to day basis. Spending time on YOU for YOU boosts your confidence and self-esteem which in turn makes you a more positive person. Being positive and having high energy makes you more fun to be around and greatly affects the relationships in your life – for the better!
Now, self-care looks different for everyone. It can be going on a run, reading a book, doing your nails, talking on the phone to your best friend, taking a nap, journaling, meditation, WHATEVER. Whatever it is that makes you feel better and stimulates you and your overall health – do that, and don’t feel bad about choosing that over something else!
You have to take care of yourself, first!! You can’t be an incredible anything if you aren’t putting your health before anyone else! You will be drained if you keep putting your self-care on the backburner. Find something that sparks your fire and refuels that energy and do it often. Seriously, add it to your calendar and don’t cancel on yourself! Know your worth and respect it!! If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.
